970 trany problems

970 transmission. My neighbor just purchased a 970 with power shift. Seems to work well with the exception of releasing the (clutch) pedal. There is no easing into motion no matter how slow you let it out. Usually the front wheels come off the ground. I seem to recall something about a inching valve maybe. Is there adjustment for this problem or does it go deeper.

You didn't mention if it is a cab tractor, an early model, or late model. They all will affect the final cure, but to start with check the platform mounts and linkage from the pedal to the control valve. Early models had problems with the mounts breaking and causing erratic clutch operation. While on that note, it is also recommended that that the operator plant his/her heal on the floor board and rotate one's foot to smoothly engage the inching spool. Later models had an enhanced inching spool and better seals on the multiple clutch packs which also refined the tractors operation.
Scroll down to CASE DB forum and post there. Pressure readings on all clutch circuits, in each PS gear and with the inching pedal depressed will help diagnose RPS34 tranny problems. Warn and leaky clutch pack seals can cause your problems.
