NEED HYDRAULIC HELP!

I own a Case 446 tractor with hydraulic drive. My tractor has begun to not pull under any load. I can get on it and drive it anywhere as long as I am not pulling up a hill. My question is: how can I determine if it is a drive motor or control valve at fault? I have no way of checking with a pressure gauge. The three point lift seems to work okay. I'm recalling thing control valve. Am I right?

Is this a hydrostat unit, or a separate hydraulic pump/motor?

If it's a hydrostat, the unit will need to come apart and be inspected. Probably be obvious once in there.

If it is a separate hydraulic pump, look for a pressure relief valve that may be bypassing, clogged suction screen, low oil level.

A shop manual would be a valuable investment.

Thank you for your quick response. Where would a manual be available?

Ebay.

They have several to choose from, looks like it is broken down to each component, engine, hydraulics, ect.

This one is more expensive, but should cover everything (if it's all there). I see it doesn't specifically cover 446 though, but probably a different year, likely minimal difference.

If you plan on keeping this tractor, the complete one would be best, or if you just want to see the drive train, others will cover it, just not sure which ones you would need.
Manual

It is not a hydrostatic trans. It is a simple open center hydraulic drive system. Constant displacement Pump, Variable flow control valve, and fixed displacement hyd. motor.
It amasses me that people reply to technical problems and are totally clueless about how the machine is designed and constructed.

Low on oil
Wrong oil
Rock in hydraulic tank (do you have kids :D )
Rear end in high range instead of low
Pump coupler on back of engine
