Broken injector pump shaft

Need help, I have a John Deere 1020 with a roosa master injection pump. The pump is not turning with the engine. How do I pin time it when I don't have lines in inspection window of pump to go by ? Do I pull #1injector and verify when compression and flywheel timing Mark are together or what? Don't want to get injection pump out of time after I have it rebiult.

turn the engine to top dead center(TDC) mark on the flywheel....the engine will be TDC on either #1 or #6 cylinder.

Then pull the pump and see if the oil pump gear's little arrow is pointing towards #5 cylinder(at least towards the engine block)...if not you may have to rotate the engine another turn

Long as the engine pump driveline has no damage the repaired pump should go back on fine whether keyed or tang drive. Final timing can then be set on the repaired pump at that time.

(quoted from post at 14:46:25 05/30/17) Any idea why the pump shaft broke? Water in
fuel? washing engine off with tractor
running?

I got some bad fuel apparently the last time it was delivered. Had algae in it. I put some bio-kleen in my tank and thought it was taken care of. Also had quit using that fuel and was using fuel from another source but apparently the algae was growing in my tractors fuel tank. Stopped the filter up and snap. I have removed the pump and the shaft from the engine and have sent it off for repair. I want to thank everyone for there help on the mater. I hope this is the last of my trouble like this.

I assume a DBG or JDB pump and not a CDC or CBC? I ask because they are Roosa Master pumps and all have timing windows. The latter cannot be
rebuilt however. The latter also has shear-bolts designed to break instead of the shaft.

Easiest way I know of to verify position it take the valve cover off. Turn the engine in direction it turns when it runs. After the intake
valve opens and closes for #1 cylinder, turn until the timing pin lines up with the timing hole in the flywheel.
