Massey Ferguson 65 Starting Problem

I am trying to get a Massey Ferguson 65 running that was sitting for a number of years. If you spray a very small amount of starter fluid it will start quickly and run briefly. We rebuilt the fuel injector pump because it was not pumping fuel to the injectors. We now have a strong supply of fuel to the injectors but it doesn't even try to start. I was careful to photograph the timing marks before I removed the pump and to bolt the pump back with the same settings. What should I do next? Do injectors corrode with time and go bad? Could the pump timing be off so much that the injectors would not fire? If I decide to replace the injectors who makes the best quality replacement injectors? I plan on keeping this tractor for a long time so I want to use the best parts. The person I bought the tractor from had pull started it and had the engine running.

Was the previous owner pull starting it each time to use it? If so the injection pump hydraulic head may be shot internally. When you crank the engine do you see any white smoke at the exhaust? If not that's a good sign the hydraulic head is bad too. Which engine does it have, the early indirect injected A4.203 or the late direct injected AD4.203, later engines were much better starting. If the pump was repaired without being tested, the only way to know how good the cranking speed delivery is to have it tested..

Does it crank quickly? A diesel can crank all day at just below the needed cranking speed without starting.

A friend helped me rebuild the injection pump. The check valve was frozen and the pump had some small leaks. We spun the pump in a lathe and watched the four lines deliver fuel. I installed the pump on the tractor. No leaks. The injector lines were cracked loose and fuel splashed out of all four injectors.

The injection pump head had some fine crud in it so we are thinking that the crud is in the injectors and has plugged them. I am trying to remove the fuel tank. The front two bolts spin and I can't seem to reach the bolt head with a wrench to stop them from spinning. The front tank mounts are slotted. So can I lift the rear of the tank and slide it off of the front bolts without removing them?

The rear most fuel filter has a slight leak. I have a hard time replacing it and getting it to seal. Is there a better filter head and filter style to replace it? My brother has a 1394 Case where they use two of the smaller second filter in series. So does it make sense to get a filter mount for the smaller CAV filter and use two of them in series?

My tractor is a 1960 model. I think it has the indirect injection engine because the four injectors are vertical and not mounted at an angle like they are for the direct injection motor. I have a parts manual for all variations of the tractor so I have pictures of both the direct injection and what they call the regular diesel which I assume is the indirect injection.
