Can't remove front end off of 55' Ford 960

Hello Everyone,

I need to replace the front crankshaft seal on my 1955 Ford 960. This requires loosening the 6 bolts on the row crop front end to provide clearance to remove the pulley. I managed to remove the top 2 and middle 2 bolts but the bottom 2 bolts have me stumped. I can't find a way to get a wrench or socket onto the bolt head because the bolt head is surrounded by a pocket of frame. Does anyone out there have a tool or trick that I can use to remove these last 2 nuts and bolts? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Mike

I have had the pedestal off both my 960 and 961 and had no problems there, and don't recall using any special tools. I expect that it was just a combination wrench and 3/4 drive socket. It looks like the nut on yours may be more deteriorated than mine were. Flame wrench may be needed.

I can give the double bend wrench a try. I need to see if it is thinner than my combo wrench. I can get to the bolt but there just isn't enough clearance around the bolt head to get the wrench onto it. I was also thinking about trying a thin walled socket. But I am having trouble finding one that is a 27mm. I might need to grind the casing back so I can get a normal wrench or socket on it.

I had the front end off dad's 4000 RC. Didn't require any special
tools. Might be more hard grease that needs cleaned out around the
head of the bolt.
