Farmall Super C: Replacing Fuel Line

Hello,

I recently bought a Farmall Super C and have been working on cleaning up the carburetor. I managed to round off the fittings on the fuel line when taking it off and I purchased this one to replace it: http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Farmall-Super-A_Fuel-Line-With-fittings_FLA15.html.

The odd thing is that although it will thread into the elbow on the carburetor just fine, I can't get it to thread into the sediment bowl. I tried the old fuel line and can't get that one started either.

I'm relatively inexperienced. Is there some sort of stupid trick to this? The threads look OK to me but should I try cleaning them with a tap? What size of tap would be correct?

The fittings are incompatibly. Original is a heavy-duty compression fitting and you are trying to screw a male flare fitting in in it's place, two entirely different sealing systems.

The correct brass compression nut are still available from the dealer, and steel brake line that will match is available at auto parts stores. Suggest going that route.

OK, that makes sense. There were a couple things going on that made me take a step back:
-Replacement hose seems to thread into the elbow on the carburetor fine. I didn't tighten it, maybe I would have noticed a problem then.
-Neither the old fuel line nor the new one thread into the sediment bowl. Replacement is wrong and the old one is probably distorted because it is a compression fitting.

Can you confirm this is the right fitting? Steiner part IHS2622 / Case IH 222-503, 29899D

Thanks.

I believe you're over thinking this. All you need to do is make a trip to the plumbing department at the hardware store.

He's not overthinking it. The original fittings are special, and don't match plumbing or typical automotive fittings. The nuts with captive compression ring were (IIRC) made by Weatherhead for IH. The internal threads and "seat" in the sediment bowl and brass carburetor fitting are unique for use with that specific nut.

To the O.P., you are correct on the part number for the original style nuts.

Well that's a skrew'd up affair. I guess they wanted you to have to come in to the parts counter for every little piddling thing when they designed that thing didn't they.

Update on this: Long story short, this isn't anywhere near as complicated as I was making it out to be. I was an idiot and lost a part.

The outlet on the sediment bowl is 1/8" pipe thread, but it is supposed to have an adapter to fit the 5/16" compression fitting that IH uses. I found the adapter on my workbench. I had taken the fuel line off several days before trying to put it back together and forgot about the adapter.

The replacement hose in my original post actually fits just fine: http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Farmall-Super-A_Fuel-Line-With-fittings_FLA15.htm.
