1952 John Deere B runs rough

I recently bought a 1952 John Deere B gas burner that won't run smoothly. The carburetor has been rebuilt and I had it checked again yesterday and was told it is in great shape. When I try to smooth out the idle with the idle jet, it clears up for a while and then acts like it is starving. When I pull out the choke briefly it catches for a while. Fuel comes out the bottom drain on the carb. when I open it. At both idle and run it seems to be running rich from looking at the stack. It appears it's starving for either air or fuel--maybe both. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Your expecting too much from it. It only has half the number of cylinders that most tractors of that era had. HeHe.

PS welcome to the YT site. You will find a lot of helpful people plus some ball busters like me on here.

Ha Thanks. I cut my teeth on the steering wheel of a John Deere B so I know the sound very well. Trust me--This one ain't right...

Seems like one or more of the passages did not get cleaned out. Those passages need to have a long drill bit run through to get the rust out. Soaking the carb does not work. Ron Mn

If you will e-mail me (e-mail open, bottom right of box) I will send you the correct way to set idle and load on these and also procedure will diagnose whether someone did carb correctly or not. Too much to write on here.

Hi RandyB Thanks. I don't see the Open Email link...

My dad had a John Deere A and Farmall M. That's why I'm a Case
collector!

If the intake valves don't fit tight in the guides and or have bad
seals. The tractor won't idle correctly.

Don't know how the intake manifold is on a JD but on a Farmall they can rust through creating vacuum leaks and a rough running tractor. Choking helps but makes the engine smoke. Taking a look is free.

Thanks for all the tips.
