Old Deutz tractor loses power

Help, for old Deutz tractor. Loses power after an hour or so running. It is a D 3006 tractor, with F2L 912 2 cylinder air-cooled engine. I used it for bush-hogging last year, and it seemed ok, but now it severely loses power after an hour or 1 1/2 hour. I am new to tractors in general, so any tips would be appreciated.

I just changed the fuel filter, and was hoping that would help but it didn't. The tractor doesn't stop running, it just loses almost all power. It almost doesn't respond to accelerator and can barely limp back to its parking spot.

When is the last time the ENGINE had a real good high pressure wash at a CAR wash?

I remove all AIR ducting from AFT of the blower and use a CAR WASH with HOT WATER and SOAP:

My machine is a 4 cylinder Deutz 1959 Model:

Are there V-Belts driving the blower:

Yes there are V-belts for the blower. I do not have a way to transport the tractor to a car wash at this time. I got it from the real-estate agent who sold us this land (29 acres in Mississippi). It had been a logging crew's tractor for years before our real-estate agent got it. He only used it occasionally for bush-hogging. It's pretty beat up.

Logging equipment accumulates a lot of twigs, chips, leaf fragments, pine needle pieces, etc. in every tiny space. You can clean it out with strong detergent, (Dollar store oven cleaner) and a garden hose, once you have removed all the shields and outer parts.

Thanks, I'll try that next. Lots to do around here in the spring. We have a big open field with blackberries and thistles trying to take over. I really need the tractor to try to stay on top of them (hah hah!).

But like I say, the tractor ran for hours last summer with no trouble. Now it only lasts an hour and a half and its done.

Check the fuel cap and/or the vent line on the tank. It may be pulling a vacuum on the tank and starving for fuel. Also check the fuel return hoses for kinks or restrictions, and check fuel supply hoses. If I remember correctly, they were rubber with a braided covering and could be collapsing and restricting flow. It is very important to open the cover and check that the cooling fins are clean, a bird nest or other blockage in that area can ruin one of those engines fast. My uncle was a Deutz dealer in the late 70's, we had a 30-06, 68-06, and 130-06 mfwd. Loved all of them! What part of MS? I'm in s/w MS, close to McComb.

Thanks for the tips. I just cleaned the fins and air filter yesterday (the fins were occluded with pine needle debris). I haven't tried running it yet, waiting for the air filter to dry out. Two of my fuel lines have a leak; the one from the primer pump to the fuel filter (small leak)and the soft line that returns fuel to the tank.

I had the line to the tank replaced last summer (when I first used the tractor) but the new line still leaks (could it be the banjo bolt?).

Hey, you're near McComb? Wow that's where we live. My wife and I bought a 29 acre piece just outside McComb. Trying to farm it, though I have almost 0 experience. Glad to hear from you, maybe we'll meet up someday.

You can find me anytime at the fire department. I live about 12 miles out of town, have a few beef cows and do some custom hay work. Look me up, be glad to help you get it going. If you call the station, tell them you need to talk about a tractor- they'll give you my cell number.

Hey Gary 201, I cleaned the fins (they really needed it)but I'm still not able to get more than an hour of bush hogging then the power drops off. Engine is still running but almost no acceleration. If you could take a look at it Id really appreciate it. Are you at the McComb fire station? Thanks

Deutz loses power, problem solved. Thanks to Gary 201 who came out to lend me a hand, I am up and running again. Turns out it was trash in the fuel tank. It would float around freely for a while before getting sucked to the fuel line and partially stopping it up.
Really lucky it was a cheap fix, and many thanks to Gary for his help!
