How do I fix this crack under transmission case 1070?

On the bottom of my case 1070 where the axle bolts to the transmission there is a crack that someone tried to weld and then the crack came through the weld so then they put a epoxy like JB weld on it. I would guess its about 6in long. It leaks enough to where I need to fix it. Any ideas how to fix it?

I was going to try and just use a air chisel to pinch the crack shut but not sure if that will work since its been booger welded.

Back in my prime I brazed more than one like that. Find somebody that can braze. He will have to grind off all the goop to get back to clear cast.

I brazed several 9-1070s that had that problem. The PTO brake would fall off and get wedged under the bull gear and crack the housing. Clean it good and cook the oil out, and then braze the crack shut. Don't forget to drill small holes at the ends of the cracks to prevent further cracking.

Michael, if you didn't want to pay a welder to do it, you could do as Glen says and stitch it. It works very very well, and is easy. I've done a few engine blocks with it, and no leaks, as well as invisible. Took about 45 minutes to an hour to do a 6 inch block crack. That was from getting all my tools out, stitching it, cleaning it up with a grinder then going over it with a flapper wheel, then blending it with a needle scaler and paint.
