Hello everyone this is my first post here so if I am in wrong place to ask these questions let me know

I have a 1968 track load JD450. Some time ago I lost the right stick steering control. Because I just use it around farm I just lived with
steering with left stick. Now left will not steer so no steering. It moves forward and back in all gears but when I pull back on either stick it
stops.

So looking for some info on what is problem and on how to fix.

Well if it is like one my friend has the levers are both a clutch/brake set up.

You say it just stops as in kills the engine or just stops moving but the engine keeps running?

By the way down lower on the page is a forum for heavy equipment and dozier etc.

Remove, clean, inspect, measure to find what is broken. worn of stuck in the steering and brake and clutch boxes. Replace worn and damaged parts to the settings in the factory service manual. Parts book is free online at the JD web site.
No jerry rigged farmer fixes for free on this task.

There is just mechanical linkage in there. Pull the lever back part way and the fingers on the clutch pressure plate get pushed on and the the clutches disengage (if not stuck). Pull further the brake-band gets tightened and the brake comes on. Not sure what you mean by "not steering?" Not turning due to no brakes or not going forward under power due to no clutch?

If it is not a 450C it will have dry steering clutches, They are prone to sticking if not used nych. The 459C has wet clutches.

Take out the floor boards and look at the dogs on the lever, The clutch dog has to release the cutch and continued movement applies the brake, Sometimes they get stuck to the pivot pin

JDEM, What I mean by "not steering" is:

If you let out foot clutch dozer will go forward when I pull back on either steering sticks the dozer will stop moving towards. It does not stall as matter fact no rpm change.

Like I said in first post I have been steering with one steering stick for some time so what every is broke on the one side the other side is now broken. Thanks for any help you can give my to repair. RAVEN390

Here are some images and part numbers of what you are getting into.

I sounds like only one steering clutch is working at all and not very well. What you describe is common for a dry-clutch Deere that has absorbed moisture. Might be oil soaked too. Pop one of the steering-clutch covers off and look down inside with a flashlight. If the fingers on the pressure-plate are hitting the throw-out bearing all the time, they are too thick from water and rust. There is a little bit of adjustment on the linkage to get some free-play, but not much. You likely have to take out the steering clutches and fix it. Be glad it is a 450 and not a 350. On a 450, you can remove the clutches without taking the track off (unlike a 350).
