5020 vs 6030: restoration question

I have recently bought a 5020 for a restoration project. This particular tractor has had someone install what I believe to be a turbo from a 6030 along with associated intake & exhaust plumbing. My question is this: Is that really the only difference between the 5020 and the 6030? That is, given that modifications have already been made (including the hood), does it make more sense for me just to convert it over to a 6030 during the restoration?

I have always liked them both. And the tractor will see some limited use once restored. That being the case, I thought it might make more sense to leave the functioning turbo on the tractor, but I didn't want to go to all the work of a complete restore only to have a 5020......with a turbo.

Looking for some guidance from guys with firsthand experience here.

Thank you in advance for the help. I appreciate it.

There are a lot more differences than the turbo between the two. I would leave it a 5020 turbo. I would like to have one. I thought it would be neat to find a 5020 with a bad engine and put a 619 in it.

My intention is to do a full restore on the 5020 and then use it for occasional work with a 15ft batwing. I think i would prefer to take the turbo off and take it back to straight 5020. I had read previously that the stock 5020 was weak and wasn't sure if taking the turbo off was a poor choice. Also, removing the turbo means re-working the hood.

I have no experience with those JDs but I have a Ford 9000 and I have looked up the differences between it and the natural 8000. There are a lot of little differences, like the piston cooling holes in the rods, but none of that stuff is going to have any impact unless you are operating it under fairly high sustained loads. I suggest you post this on the JD forum as well.

Thank you, Sir
