Shibaura SD1500a

Hello all, I recently was given a shibaura sd1500a and am going through the tractor replacing lines and fluids. The tractor sat for 5 yrs prior to me getting it and started right up with a new battery. I see labels all over it for the trans, gear box, hubs etc calling for 80w gear oil. Is this correct? Doesn't seem right and also the 3ph stops lifting when the fluids get warmed up. What can cause this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to YT, Shibaura.

You have an odd one, though someone else here may know something of them. If the factory labels state 80W gear oil (near a fill hole), I'd make sure it had the correct oil in the correct place to the correct level. As for hydraulics, I don't know of any manufacturer using anything but "Hytran" (universal tractor fluid, aka UTF) since Massey quit using 90w gear lube for hydraulics in 1962.

If memory serves, Perkins bought out the Shibaura diesel engine plant and is producing Shibaura diesels with a Perkins label. The difference is that the Shib is a native bore engine, meaning that when the cylinders get worn, it's a re-bore, not a re-sleeve job. They are cheaper to produce, so expanded their 'low end' market share.
