Lord loader on 56 farmall 350u

Does anyone know the correct fluid for this old loader? My pump was winning a little so I added a gallon of hydralic fluid and lost the function of it. Some people have said I should have added
automatic trans fluid instead. Any help to get the old girl lifting again is appreciated.

Not sure what oil it should have, but sounds like there is something else wrong.

Whining is usually a sign of low oil level, pump sucking air. So if it was low, adding oil would have been the thing to do, but any oil would have worked. The wrong oil would still have worked, would not have stopped it.

Have you checked the oil level? What is it doing now? Any noise at all? Is the pump turning under load?

Hope someone else can help, I'm going out of town today, won't have internet access until Sunday, so I'm not ignoring your reply.
