hi was wondering if anyone could help me out. i am rebuilding a deutz f3l912 and i am setting all the timing marks on the front gears but the crankshaft gear has two marks. what one do i use? and do i need to gap the new piston rings. got the liner and piston kit but cant find any info on ring gap. any help would e greatly appreciated thanks.

Not familiar with the specific brand, but here goes...

The standard ring end gap is .004" per inch of cylinder bore. Example, a 3" bore would need .012" gap.

As for the timing marks, you can do a mock up assembly. Set the marks as you think they might go. Carefully turn the engine through while holding the lifters against the cam. As the piston comes to TDC on the overlap stroke, the lifters should be in over lap, the exhaust just closing, the intake just opening.

Once that is established, the rest should become more obvious.
