DON'T remove 'em unless you have to because of the risk of breakage.

If they HAVE to come out, a simple ViseGrip will probably get the job done.

Or go all the way and get a stud removal tool.

Hazard Fraught used to have 'em for about ten bucks, but I don't see 'em anymore in their on-line catalog. Expect to pay a LOT more for a StrapOn.

Start with some rust penetrant, let that soak a day or so if possible.

Put 2 nuts on the stud, lock them tightly together. Turning the lower nut, screw the stud out.

If any are stripped or will not take the nuts, save them for last, they can be removed with Vice-grips or a small pipe wrench.

If it doesn't want to move, STOP! A lot easier to finesse it out than drill it out!

Try tapping the end of the stud with a brass or aluminum drift. Some gentle heat, like a propane/mapp gas torch will help. If it will move at all, try turning it both directions. Each time it moves it should get easier until it comes out.

Once they are out, chase the threaded holes in the block with a tap. Go back with new studs if the old ones are rust pitted or any doubt of their condition. Never chase the stud threads with a die! You can wire brush them.

When going back with the studs, any that go into the water jacket need to be sealed with Permatex, or automotive silicone. Double nut the stud, snug it in the hole.
