IH 424 oil pump repair

I read Several threads concerning low oil pressure related to warped oil pump cover plate and blown gasket. I took a chance, dropped the pan and pulled the pump and sure enough that looks like it is a problem. I have flattened the cover surface and reinforced the cover plate. I'mean ready to Reinstall everything but need some advice concerning the gaskets for the pump cover and oil pan. Should I use tube sealant for Both? The pump cover gasket is paper thin. The oil pan gasket is much thicker and judging by how hard it was to remove and get clean I'don't say yes or the pan. Just want to do the job of explaining time.

Hi,hears how you test the pump. put the bottom of the pump in a bucket of clean diesel fuel and turn the drive gear slowley anti-clockwise. you will see that the pumped fuel will come out of an oval hole on the pump body so you put your thum tight over the hole while turning the gear and fuel should shoot out of the hole . I have done this test more times than I can remember
in the last 40 plus years I have worked on these engines. MJ.

You shouldn't need sealer on the pump gasket. Just assemble it clean and dry, pour some oil in the pump before installing.

Hopefully you went back with the same thickness gasket on the pump. The gasket sets the end clearance for the gears.

As for the pan gasket, I like to use spray adhesive to hold it in place. Flatten the bolt holes first.

If there are any areas where the gasket crosses irregularities, like where the timing cover bolts to the block, rear main cap, etc, you can use some high temp automotive silicone on those areas.
