Hi guys,

So my 560 (gas converted from LP) Farmall has developed a fuel leak from the carb... It has also started shooting fire from the exhaust anytime I throttle down. Could this also be caused by the carb? Can the carb be rebuilt or does it have to be completely replaced? Any feedback would be appreciated. I will try and get pictures tomorrow. I didn't think about it until after it got dark.

Thanks guys!

The carb is likely repairable.

Only if the bowl is cracked would repair be impractical, even then it might be salvageable.

Can you see where the leak is coming from? Could just be a loose fitting.

Or could be the needle/seat is not shutting off the fuel, and it is overflowing, flooding. In that case, opening it up and checking the float, needle seat, adjusting the level, cleaning everything up, will usually fix it.

Those carbs are simple, don't be afraid of it.

Fire from the exhaust could be a mixture problem, but could also be from exhaust leaks, vacuum leaks, or ignition problems.

Okay so it seems to be leaking out of this hole in the bottom of the carb... I have taken the carb off and taken it apart. The seals were the original paper seals and were horribly degraded. I have soaked the carb and gas and it is in the process of drying. Any suggestions?

That is the drain on the bottom of the carb and suppose to allow fuel to drain out when the carb is flooded. I would assume you have a bad needle and seat that it needs cleaned or probably replaced. It could also be a bad float in the carb but less likely than needle and seat problems. Yes it is repairable so buy a carb kit for a 560 and take it apart clean everything and replace the stuff inside with things that look the same from the repair kit. These old tractors will run and burn the excess fuel of a carb problem like this but as you have noticed you are getting flames out the exhaust from a rich mixture. If you get the carb fixed up and still have flames I would look at your distributor timing next but in this case I would assume its the carb.
