Tractor Wont Start

I have a '49 Ford 8N. It has been sitting up without starting for about 6 months. It started with no trouble back then but now it doesn't fire at all. I replaced the gas, checked to make sure the points are opening and sprayed starting fluid in the manifold. The engine is turning over fine, but no firing response from the tractor what so ever. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check for spark at the plugs.

Chances are the points are corroded from sitting, and are not making contact. You can clean them with contact cleaner and blot them with clean paper.

There is a drain plug in the bottom of the carb. With the fuel valve open, pull the drain plug and catch what comes out in a clean glass. If the carb is empty, obviously no fuel is getting into the carb.

It should flow a full stream, then slow as the bowl empties, but continue to flow a stream, not stop or drip. Also look at what comes out. If there is trash, rust, or water, the fuel tank is contaminated and will need to be dumped, rinsed with clean fuel, and reinstalled.

Sitting 6 months with the point closed means the point have corroded and not conducting power so you have no spark

Many time a person can just clean them up and get by for a very long time. I have tractor that have had the same point in them for a decade now and once in a while I have to clean the point for them to run but that is all I do
