oil filter spring

I do not have the throw-away spin on filter. I have the one that uses a oil filter
element with three rubber washers. I read some where not to change to a spin on
with the type of oil pump my tractor has. I am concerned about not having a spring
before the filter. If I just had the length I might be able to find something. I hope this
helps on which oil filter I am talking about. It has a long bolt with holes in the bolt.
THANKS!

I looked at the original post, and you never mentioned what tractor and engine you have. The oil pump style is bs. Cut a spin on filter in half and you will see the paper element that is in your canister . Same thing ....Have you called CNH and priced the spring and washer ? Likely the adapter kit sold here at the YT store , PN CPN6882A for about $31 is just a little more than those parts , And no more leaks, and every auto parts in the world has your filter , A FL1a , Ph8 ,PER1 . You might be using it now ...

ll the spring does is hold the element down so that is does not rise above the tube that it rides on. So any spring will do that. Furthermore, the rubber grommet in the element is so stiff that it will take care of that, so spring is really not needed. As to using those adapters, since these are a bypass system, with little flow & little pressure, it is my opinion the using an adapter with FL-1A spin on may be like no filter at all. Those have anti-drain back valves in them.....does your engine even have enough pressure to open that valve? If you change to one of those, I suggest that you disconnect the line from filter to governor & see if there is flow or not. Maybe I am wrong?

MORE. The first units that one company made were so wrong that no filtering would occur, because they had the inlet and outlet reversed! I.e., the anti-drain back completely blocked flow! They later fixed it, but which one are you buying? Mine are the way Ford made them.
