'44 JD A Rad Core and Axle Seals

Hi everyone,
I'm replacing the wartime pressurized core on my 44 Model A and I have a core from a 46 A that's unpressurized that I'm hoping to use. Would there be any issues with this aside from the temperature gauge
being a little off?
In the spirit of keeping the looks original, I was also hoping to reuse the rad top from my 44, with the pressurized lid and filler neck. I figure I can drill a hole through the pressure cap to make it
unpressurized. Thoughts?

Second question: My axle seals are shot and I am pulling the axles to replace bearings, so chances are I'm going to mangle the felt retainers. The '44 (S/N 534789) has the A264R retainers in it now, but can
I replace them with a new set of inner and outer retainers from S/N 547322+?

Last thing is I've had issues confirming whether the filler neck on my rad is original from wartime or not. I'll add a picture here and hopefully shine some light on it.

Your filler neck is not original. www.jdparts.com and download a free parts catalog. You will get more answers on the John Deere board.

War model A's had steel radiator cores because of the shortage of copper and brass. Leaving it pressurized won't hurt a thing. The neck on your radiator is much taller than the original. Radiator cap should be close to flush or just below opening in the hood. Also opening in hood is smaller for pressurized than non.

I never noticed that the parts catalogue had my filler neck in it... That definitely helps with what I'm looking for though.

Okay, so if I get the proper filler neck I can leave it pressurized. That's great. I didn't really want to ruin a perfectly good pressurized cap.
I never even thought to measure the different openings; I'm sure I would have found out when the hole was the wrong size though.

Thanks for the help! I'll repost the axle seals question in the JD forums as suggested
