Push rod wear

I pulled the heads of my case 841 today and took the to the shop. I noticed the lower tips of the push rods were nice and shined except for the tip. Each one had an 1/8 inch flat spot at the tip and it looked like it was worn to a different color metal. Are these shot or is this normal wear?
At first I thought they were machined that way until I looked closer. I haven't looked at the cam yet.

That's how a lot of push rods are made, completely normal.

They do not run directly on the cam anyway, do they? They have to run in a tappet or lifter of some sort.

It seems they sit on a cam follower. Ill drop the pan this morning at get a better look.
