Ford 641 Tractor Hydraulic Lift

My father left me a 1955 Ford 641 tractor with a broken ?DRAFT CONTROL SPRING PLUNGER?- I have purchased the plunger. Does the seat and lift cover have to be removed to replace the plunger?

First off it cannot be a 1955 641 since the 601 series did not come out till 1958. The 600 series ran from 1955 to 1957 then in 1958 the 601 series came out so to be a 1955 it has to be a 640.
That said yes the lift cover has to come off to fix the problem you have

By the way if you do not have it, it would be a good idea to get your self an I-T manual which will help a good bit in explaining how to fix your problem and has pictures which helps a lot
