What just happened to the 8N?

He has a small shredder on it, and started the tractor up, raised the shredder and walked away from it for a second. All of a sudden he says was a loud pop, the shredder goes down to the ground, and what appears to be a few gallons worth of fluid pours out of the back right hand side axle down the wheel. The tractor still idled smoothly, but he turned it off and says it will start just fine but just don't know what happened inside there. Just a simple axle seal or something? Before i just start taking stuff apart, does anybody already know what this is? Or where i should start on this? Thanks!

Likely, it blew out the gasket, either between the lift assembly and the main housing, or between the main housing and the hydraulic pump, depending upon whether the oil is coming out high up or low down. There is an internal steel tube that runs up from the pump to the lift assembly and those gashets seal around the port/passageway.

The original gaskets had tough asbestos fibers in them, making them hard to tear.blow, and since that stuffs no longer PC the newer gaskets typically aren't as tough.

Post back when after you take a look and see exactly where the leak is. Best to post on the "N"-specific Forum further down on the main page.

Thanks for the response. Where are these located inside, or what part should i remove to see the most of it? If i remember, theres a few plates that can be removed, is one of them right by the area i need to see? I dont want to remove a bunch of unneccesary parts, and dont really know where to look inside. haha Thanks again

First off, just figure out where the oil came from. Also and again, probably can get a lot more help down in the 9n/2n/8n forum just down the main page.

I'll see what i can see tomorow, at the moment all i can see is it came from the axle. I'll post updates in the 8N section as mentioned. thanks!
