PTO SHAFT REMOVAL

Maybe you are asking about removing the implement coupling from your tractor's shaft? Usually the wear causes a little looseness and once you get the release button in it pretty much just slips off. Most likely your button is not completely releasing, or you used the implement for just a short time and there is rust inside the coupling. Just go run it another hour or two and it should loosen up.

Some tractors the pto brake leaves a preload
on shaft. I have a 4440 that I have to turn
engine off to remove implement pto shaft. I
move pto lever in cab back and forth also
after turning engine off.

Seems like everything I own has it's own combination. Turning the shaft backwards a little seems to be the most common theme.

When you post you always need to say what tractor you have because pulling a PTO is not the same on them all.

Ya I know you have an 8N but these guys may not know that

Have you removed the shiftier cover like I said??

Are you trying to pull it with out taking the 4 bolts out of the PTO bearing plate?? If you are then you have already messed it up

It appears that we don't even know if he is trying to get the shaft out of the tractor or the implement coupler off the tractor shaft as I guessed earlier.

WE DID CHECK IN SHIFTER PLATE, AND NOTHIG LOOKED ABNORMAL.OF COURSE I REMOVED THE 4 BOLTS! I HAVE PTO-SHAFT OUT 2&1/2".
SAEMS TO BE STUCK BETWEEN THE COUPLER AND PUMP IN THE BEARING.ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO REMOVE IT THE REST OF THE WAY ???

Rotate it as your pulling it could be hanging up on one of the cams that drive the hyd pump

THANK YOU SO FAR VERY MUCH!!! I HAVE BEEN TURNING AS I PRY ON IT. NOW I HAVE BROKE THE SLEEVE OUT OF THE BEARING RETAINER, WHICH IS WHAT I USED TO PRY ON!!! ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO PRY OUT NOW??? ITS OUT 2&1/2" FROM PTO HOUSING!!!

If it truly is just stuck and not something that you've missed,it sounds like you'll have to gerryrig some kind of slide hammer. I've had to do that with Olivers when the splines were damaged.

Concerning the lift cylinder ROD! Where it connects to the lift arm with the pin, how much play should be in the rod? Im talking about where the pin connects to the rod, should it be loose or tight??[/i]
