Needing help with 1949 8-N hydraulics! It will keep a light( 150 lb)implement up but will bleed off! Will not lift a two blade plow or brush hog anymore!

Drained and refilled with 5 gal of hydraulic and transmission fluid!
Removed right side dip stick inspection plate! No leaks and I have movement in the center of the pump while the p.t.o is engaged and running!

What should I check next ZANE???

I had one like that and of you follow where the fluid is moving your likely to find a pump gasket had blown out. You should not see much fluid movement other then what the PTO shaft would cause and any more then that is where the problem will be

Mount something it will not lift and try to lift it while looking inside. When you do you should then see where and why it does not lift like it should. Maybe the cylinder rings or it maybe a gasket bad or the relief valve stuck open

ok i put to heavy of load (2 blade plow) on it and got same results. Not sure what to do now!!!

Carefully reach in and see if the control valve is moving all the way to the lift position and also feel for fluid moving in and around the pump gasket area. When I had that problem on an 8N I had it was caused by he pump gasket on the left side and till I had drain some fluid off I could not really see the problem but could see some oil moving and much of any movement means you have a problem in that area.

Not all that hard a job but you do need to pull the PTO drain the 3 drains and pull the top lift cover. I would also put in the new improved NAA type lift piston and o-ring while I had it apart. Having the I-T FO-4 manual is big help. You also need to drop the pump out the bottom and check it out for a gasket problem

Your on the web site for those parts. Right here on Y-T is probably about as good a deal you will get

Okay I understand three drains, one of those which is for oil, and the pto drain is it the other two??

The 8N has 3 drains for the hyds/transmission/rear end but all one sump. If you do not pull all 3 out then you try to pull the pump you will get a fluid shower big time. But when you pull the pump no matter what you will have some fluid but not like you would if you do not pull all 3 plugs out. There is also only 1 fill plug by the shiftier

(quoted from post at 10:39:49 10/15/16) starting teardown, pto wont pull out! i have it out of gear and hydr. down. what am i missing
hooked come along to pto shaft and truck bumper and still no luck

Pull the shiftier plate off and make sure the shift coupler is not bad or the shaft twisted some. That was a problem some times where the shaft get twisted and then it as a bear to pull the PTO shaft out

shaft shouldnt be ,is there some thing else. dont want to get into trans. hyro. work just bleed off, will lift real good. pto kicks out when brush hogging, have to hold lever with left foot!

Does not matter if in or out of gear or where the position/draft control is set. But can matter if the shift collar is worn and may need to replace that while you have it opened up
