I have a 1939 Styled JD B it was origaly my grandfathers but he saddly pased 4 years ago. I took the task of restoring his tractors the B had leaks but they have been fixed. I rebuilt the carborator and repaced the plugs. Tryed to pull it to start it it ran for 30 seconds and died. The oil is new so is the gassoleen and the plugs so i think it could be the magnetto but it is properly timed any tips they would be glady apressated

A couple of simple tests first.

Check for fuel. There is a plug or drain in the bottom of the carb. With the fuel valve on, open the drain, check for good flow and clean fuel.

Next check for spark at the plugs. Should have a 1/4" spark each time the mag snaps. If not, try cleaning the points with contact cleaner and blotting with clean paper. Also check the point gap. If still no spark the coil may be bad.

Greenguy,The points are corroded from setting up. Remove the cap and clean and polish the point contacts, check the gap then polish with a folded dollar bill or brown bag between the points.

Check for spark first. DO NOT check fuel first or you could hav a fire on your hands.

#1 check that you have a good blue/white spark tha twill jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. If you have that spark then check and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas from the carb drain plug that will fill a pint jar in les then 3 minutes

ALWAYS spark first then fuel NEVER the other way around or your likely to cause a fire which can be hard to put out
