John Deere 2020 engine swap

I recently purchased a 1966 JD 2020 with a 180ci gas engine. Shortly after getting it home I decided to replace the inoperable oil pressure light and temperature gauge. I was less than impressed to find oil pressure at next to zero. At the this same time I had decided to replace the thermostat, which was nonexistent. My question at this time is this: is there another engine, such as the 202 or 219 that would bolt in without a lot of modifying. If so, what kinds of equipment would I find such an animal (tractors, combines, swathes,etc.). Just exploring options before I start overhauling what I already have. Thanks.

I would check to see if your oil pressure relief valve just needs setting. I have seen the spring (#12) break or loose tension due to age. The relief valve is under a plug (#13) on the front of the motor. If the spring is not broken try adding some shims (#15) under the spring and see if that raises your oil pressure.

I switched the 202 gas out for a 219 diesel(if I'm remembering the numbers correctly!)in my 2520. The donor engine came from a utility tractor, so I had to switch over the oil pan, water pump, rear adaptor plate, tach. drive, etc. I had to manufacture the speed control going to the injector pump, and also had to make some of the air intake tubing. The biggest challenge was drilling the plug out of the top of the fuel tank for the return line, (without making a mess in the tank, or blowing up!)

I think there are several engines in that series which interchange.

Got the tractor in the shop today. Drained the oil, of which there was not more than 4 quarts even though the stick showed full. Pulled the oil
pan and got a surprise. The first thing I noticed was a 3/8 x 4 inch bolt. I found the idler gear oil line out of place and noticed a chunk out of the
cylinder skirt on number 4. No sign of the broken part in the oil pan. To make a long, and very frustrating, story short, number 3 and 4 rod
bearings are spun and I have to spend a lot of $$$ that I would rather put in other places. I have found an engine from a hay swather at a
salvage yard but I am not willing to pay the $5000 they are asking. Guess I'll keep looking.
