Rust converters

Was looking at info on rust converters. I used the keyword rust converter in Google and ran across this test comparison by the national parks service. this initial article did not have the results listed but it did have a link in the article to the test results and pictures. The hands down winner was rust oleum rust converter. NCPTT Comparative Study of Commercially Available Rust Converters

I'm no expert but based on the experience of a person I trust I used Corotech Rust Arrestor, a Benjamin Moore product. It was $60 a gallon and I split a gallon and the cost with a friend. It goes on looking like milk and then dries black where it covers rust. Let it dry 24 hours and then you can even put a finish coat over it but I put two coats of Rustoleum Clean Metal Primer followed by 2 coats of latex semi-gloss enamel. I'm refinishing a John Deere 953 running gear. I wire wheeled it, power washed it, washed it with a degreaser, then applied the Rust Arrestor. The whole gear was black. Now it's green. I emailed Benjamin Moore before I started, told them my plan, and they said my plan was going to work with the rust arrestor. Hope it stays green for many years.

I have been using this product and then put a top coat on it. So far I feel it works better than a primer but time will tell. Paul
