Firing order on John Deere H

I am working on a 1939 JD Model H with a Wico Mag. My question, Does both plugs fire each time the Mag trips. Which slot in the distributer cap should be #1 My mag seems to fire both each time it trips I don't understand how it is doing that with a rotor If this is not correct what would cause this problem

I'm not a fan of two cylinders. I think the flywheel side is #1. John Deeres I think fire on both compression and exhaust stroke.

Jerry, good questions:

Does both plugs fire each time the Mag trips.

NO

The Wico X is a direct non reduction gear drive mag which fires a spark each time the impulse trips HOWEVER only one plug fires each time since the rotor tip only lines up with a particular cap pickup each time. Left (flywheel) side fires then 180 later right clutch pulley side fires. The plugs fire at each TDC, Compression and Exhaust

Which slot in the distributer cap should be #1

Originally top was to left cylinder bottom to right

My mag seems to fire both each time it trips I don't understand how it is doing that with a rotor If this is not correct what would cause this problem.

If theres a hairline crack or a carbon trace or the cap is bad or its the wrong cap or rotor the spark may jump to both pickup towers

With the help of this forum I was able to get my H cranked and running again. It being a 1939 it is a hand start and I found out the timing has to be dead on for it to crank easy. Thanks again everyone
