to 30 temp gauge

i have tried to hook up a std temp gauge to the sideport between block and radiator. there is a 5/8 18 turn/in bolt that was fitted with a nipple to accomodate the long probem itself.

result: no go! somehow the probe does not bath in the entire water? i will try to stick it into the radiator cap when hot to see if its the probe itself....but the probe was new when bot!

is there another port on a TO30 block or a t-piece to the hose connector between block and radiator that would accomodate a probe?

any help advice welcome!

The capillary tube bulb goes into a boss on the gooseneck between the cylinder head and the radiator below the hose. The thermostat is located in the hose. Make sure it hasn"t somehow slipped down and obstructed the hole in the goose neck. the other possibility is you have a unit not specifically designed for the TO-30. I believe there are at least two length bulbs one longer than the other.
