'44 JD A Cylinder Wear

Hello everyone,

I have a '44 JD A (S/N: 534789) in mid restoration and need some opinions.
I currently have the pistons out and they aren't looking too worn; still within acceptable limits. The cylinders though, have about a .007" wear at TDC, just before the ridge. The ridge itself was barely noticeable; we were able to bring the pistons out without reaming at all so my question is this: Do I need to/should I ream out the cylinders to the first oversize and buy a rebore kit? Or can I just throw in new rings in and keep going?

Before disassembly, she was running and wasn't making any blue smoke, so I'm thinking the new rings should suffice.

The babbitted connecting rods have some marks and spots of missing babbitt as well and am unsure if they need re-pouring or not. I'll have pictures by next week.

Thoughts?
 
Break the glaze & new rings should be OK if the ring grooves are good. Knock that ridge back a little so the new top ring doesn't break.
 
As Teddy said. You don't want a "tight to factory new specs" anyway. You will never put enough of the right kind of hours on it as a play tractor to ever get it broke in and rings seated correctly. "New" tractors weren't at their best until a couple months of field work which you will never duplicate today.
 
Okay, I figured that would work out fine the way it is.
Since I'm here, what size tires do most people end up using on their restorations? I have some 13.6-38s here, but they're pretty badly cracked up, so I think I'll replace them.
This is mainly going to be a show tractor, so what would look best?
