Super A hydraulic pump

My pump was leaking hyd fluid into the engine oil. I took it apart and found the o ring was shot but also wore a grove in the pump drive gear shaft. There's not enough clearance for a wear sleeve. Can metal be welded to the shaft then machined back to original OD?

Welcome Bobrose!

Never had much success trying to build one up. True welding gets the shaft too hot. That is a precision made shaft, the heat from welding will warp the shaft. There are some spray-weld type repairs that don't apply as much heat, but it's just a surface repair, and very likely to flake off, getting into places it shouldn't!

I would either try running it like it is, see what happens. Or try to find a better used one. Or spring for a new one.

Or, any way to shift the shaft forward or backward enough to get a new surface for the seal to run on?

I would try posting on the IH-specific board lower down the page. Seems to me guys have posted there about success using a certain # Speedi-Sleeve.

Don't know if that's possible in all versions of pumps used on that tractor, but pretty sure at works on at least some.

Tig weld it about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way and
let it cool between welds.a good tig welder
can weld a very small bead.thats how i
repaired my 5 years ago still working today
