wiring diagram

I need a wiring diagram for a side mount 8N with 12 volt negative ground and a 2 wire alternator. I have seen some for a one wire alternator but not two wire. This must not be a true 12 volt coil as a resistor appears to have been used. Thanks

Take the diagram for one wire alternator. On the Plug on the edge pin,#2 can loop down to the output stud. #1 goes to output of ignition switch with a lamp or diode in the line. marker band on diode toward alternator. 3 amp @50volt diode would work. You can get the plug from any auto parts store

Sinse the 8N never came with an alternator, there won't be a factory wiring diagram available. You will need to adapt what you have to what was originally offered.

Here is a good view of what it will look like:

orry, Steve, but that diagram will only confuse him. Simply not 8N enough.

Never heard of a 2 wire you have to have 3 or it will not work correctly.
That said to wire it up is easy. You have the 2 wire plug. The #1 wire goes to the ignition switch the side that is hot when turned on with a diode or light bulb or resister in line so you can shut it off. The #2 wire goes to the charge stud on the alternator and the charge wire goes to the battery side of the amp gauge.

....but of course, he will NEVER see a charge indication on the ammeter!
