Hi, I have a 1961 Massey Ferguson 703 baler which has worked perfect for years even with the plastic twine but has recently began to break the bales. I've noticed that the knotters are not releasing the knots. I've tried tightening the string tensioner but it still continues to break the bales, I've even tried putting some 3 in 1 oil on the knotter it's self to help the twine slide out, but to no avail. I would very much appreciate some help if it's possible on how to rectify this matter as it was my Grand Fathers baler and I don't want to have to scrap it.

First thing to do is find a manual. Your grandpa probably had one, but if he's long gone you might be better off getting a copy of eBay or visiting your local Massey/AGCO dealer. Just tightening the twine won't help at all, that much I can tell you. First place I look when we start having issues with our #12 are the springs. Never heard of a 703 so not sure how similar/dissimilar they are.
