Soda Blaster

I cleaned up and sanded my John Deere all by hand. I think I removed 5 lbs of dirt/rust. Very time consuming. I have other equipment to prepare for paint. Would a soda blaster work? HF has some for sale. I would rather not purchase a sand blaster. What size of an air compressor is required for a soda blaster?

Soda blasters do a good job removing paint with out damaging sheet metal. My bil had two big commercial models for his auto restoration business. He could blast the paint off of a car with out damaging the glass or trim if it wasn't removed.
On heavy rust he used a heavier media like walnut hulls or glass beads thru his regular blast pot.

You'll need about a 3 HP (real HP, not Chinese imaginary HP) to run the HF soda blaster. The air needs to be really dry though, or it will be constantly clogging.

A soda blaster is more for delicate work, not removing layers of paint and rust. Sort of like comparing an air brush to an airless sprayer.

The HF unit gets fairly good ratings, the complaint is the fill hole in top is too small, takes a lot of shaking and poking to fill it up.

At work we have one unit that uses plastic media that removes paint that alum oxide and glass bead wont touch like what my 73 yr old 2N has on it.

I just play around with soda to do little things. The HF handheld sand gun for like $25.00 works great for little things. I have tons of air so I would say as others you need in the 3hp gas engine size. One fun thing with soda is you want to be on the up wind side. Everything quickly tastes like when you were a kid brushing your teeth with arm and hammer!
