1977 IH 140 steering troubles

My 140 first lost all steering to the right but it turned left fine so I just turned left all the time which was a pain since the tractor is built to turn to the right because of the offset.now it lost all steering to the left too . its steering wheel and shaft just freespin either way . any idea what's wrong in the steering gear box

It is the keyway on the shaft. They key has sheared. You can get a new $0.15 key, but I would also have a good welder or machine shop weld the shaft to the gear so this never happens again. Also, the welding will eliminate ALL of the slack the steering has. Good all the way around to do so.
