Starter location on to35 or timing window

I'm not a mechanic but you'd think I could find a starter to find the timing window.
Tractor is a 1955 to35 with front bucket making it difficult to get directly close to engine.
Finally got tractor up and ideling pretty good but progressively declined. I noticed the distributor was clamped with hose clamp not allowing a tight hold. In attempt to fix I pulled the distributor too far out and now I'm in crazy state....
Help from great folks on forum and reading tell me what to do. But I can not find a starter.
Traced from battery - black grounded to counsel, red to a small silver (about 3 in) round device with red from battery and another wire going to a bigger incased ???? Part of side of motor.
Any suggestions besides giving up?

Starter is next to the distributor, timing hole plug is just below the starter. Plug has spring loaded legs to hold it in place, pry it out with a screwdriver.

thanks for reply.
Just tried to send photo. Guess I can't do that either.
Distributor side no starter unless in this case but under that no plug, holes or ... Case under coil and has one large black wire to it.

Case with the heavy wire is the starter. The timing hole is under the starter, should have a button type plug in it, about one inch diameter to see the front flywheel timing marks when removed..

just found some information on line and took flashlight out and think I found timing window. On carb side under steering counsel flat on block a hole about one inch with rubber cap about inch high with two tip like 1/4 inch high. Under are two copper or brass tubes with a spring like wire on them. Dark and already messed up distributor, thought I'd wait till light to investigate further.
This Massey has a Davidson 2 hydraulic bucket attached making difficult to access everything. Need tractor to run to drive it out of frame. It's massive. Bolts like a man's fist.
Thanks for your help. I need all I can, especially on this project. Truly a love hate relationship. But really this tractor is awesome! Sad to see her sitting, waiting and hungry to go to wok...
