JD 4020 12V conversion

I bought the conversion kit for 24 to 12 volt and are having a hard time getting the alternator mounted. I have seen others post about modifying the bracket, but nothing further on what or how it was modified. I don't have that much experience working on engines, but am somewhat mechanically inclined. If anyone has pictures or could elaborate on the mods, the help would be greatly appreciated.

When I do them, I turn the bracket upside down which moves the alternator forward and allows the belt to line up. This also puts the alt mounting holes at the lower edge of the bracket so you have to grind the front arm down on the top edge to get clearance for the cooling fan. Bend or use spacers on the tightener bracket to line up.

The one I converted. The mounting holes for the bracket were
slotted. I turned the bracket upside down and forward as it would
go.

Did you replace the pulley with the one on the generator? Also are talking about the original bracket or the one that comes with the kit. Because if I put it upside down the alternator would be backwards unless I used a long bolt, but I wasn't sure if it would be enough support.

Jbaca,

My husband had our 4020 converted years ago... and farmed with the old girl for a lot of years.

Here's some pics in case they are helpful to you.
