MF35 4cyl starts ok when cold but not when hot

can anyone explain why a MF35 4 cyl starts ok when cold but not when hot
could problem be worn timing chain causing pump timing problems??

When was the last time the valve lash was adjusted ?

Won't be the chain, engine has gears instead. B&D has a good suggestion to start with. Could also be a coil dying when hot too..

I assume you have a diesel since you mentioned "pump timing." One classic example of a good cold start and poor hot start is a worn head & rotor in the injection pump IF a rotary pump (not an in-line). Easy test is when hot and not starting - pour some cool water on the pump. Then if it starts - you can assume that is the problem.
