Hesston 540 roller

I bought a used 540 hesston roller & need to tighten the belts. Did not get a manual with roller so I'm lost. Any suggestions?

Just worked on a 540 last fall. The belts tighten with tractor hydraulic pressure. There is a belt slack knob on the right front of the baler. Make sure it is turned clockwise until closed. Then close the tailgate and continue holding the tractor remote lever until the tractor hydraulic system bypasses. This will tighten the belts and leave 2000 psi of hydraulic pressure in the belt tension system.

Do you have a manual? If not get, get one from AGCO. It will help.
When you get through for the day, loosen the belt slack knob to release the belt tension until you use the baler again.

Sorry, I missed the part about not getting a manual. They are good balers and make a nice looking bale. If you do not have bale ramps, you have to back up a few feet before dumping bale. Also stop the PTO after threading twine and before dumping roll. After dumping, pull forward a few feet and close tailgate and recharge tension system. Then start PTO, and commence to making a new roll.

What horsepower tractor do you have? Is it a manual, electric or hydraulic threader?
