Leaking Battery Issue

I have a 49 Ford 8N that I restored several years ago. It starts, runs and charges great. I store all of my tractors with a BatteryTender on them as it seems the 6 volt batteries we get now days don't last long when inactive for a while. The battery in the Ford overflows out of the cell caps and runs over the battery leaving a white powdery residue not on the posts but around the sides and bottom of the battery and holder after sitting for awhile. The water levels in the cells look good and I have not had to add to it. This is a 6 volt positive ground system, I have checked that the polarity is correct and the BatteryTender is a 6 volt and correctly installed as well. None of my other tractors hooked up to BatteryTenders do this.
Any ideas as to why this one wants to "leak" or expel battery acid from the cell caps? Is this a sign of over charging?

Are you using a battery tender / maintainer or just a tender ? It sounds like your tender is charging a bit too much to just maintain the battery, causing the gas and electrolyte leakage.

Another chance is that the battery electrolyte level is too high, helping cause the overflow.

Maybe try another brand of battery maintainer. The BatteryMINDer brand from northern tool has done a good job of maintaining my batteries without any gassing or boil over.

Well I have had that issue with 6 volt batteries for the 38 years I have been messing with old tractors. Very hard to get a good one that does not want to leak acid and ruin your paint and battery box. Also very hard to get one that lasts more than 4 years in a hard application like a crawler loader with a backhoe. I could pull them from it and get one or two more years in an easy starting tractor.
Optima makes a totally sealed 6 volt. Some guys are going to those. I myself have not tried them.

It is a 6 volt Battery Tender brand. As I mentioned I have them on several other engines and this one is the only one that does this. I think I will swap Tenders with another tractor and see it the problem moves with it.
