Water pump issues

Hi I just replaced my water pump on my Jd 1010 w. I purchased it off eBay used. "I know replace with new" but I was short on cash guy said it was good. Anyways coolant leaking from hole on bottom of housing where it comes out for pulley to bolt up. Looks like a round hole about a 1/8" maybe a weep hole not sure. Can I jb weld that hole shut until I can buy a new pump? Thanks for any help

That hole is there as a way of letting water/coolant leak out when the pump goes bad so NO if you JB weld it it will make the water come out some place else or in other words the pump you have is bad. That all said I may have a used one on hand form a JD 1010 parts tractor I have

I would have to look to make sure I still have it. As far as how good or bad it is I cannot really say since it came off an engine that was locked up but I would think it is good. My e-mail is open

There is a bearing and seal in your water pump. If the bearing starts going bad it will cause the seal to leak out that hole to let you know that there is a problem probably with your bearing. I would check to see if there is a kit for it and rebuild it your self. if you run it like that you do take a chance of something coming apart and may need a new radiator.

It may well have been "good" when he parted out the engine, but leaks now after sitting around "dry" for a while.

Anyhow, they are not tough to OH, and the seal, #R32622, is about $10, and the #JD9377 bearing about $40.

If the seller claimed it was good, Ebay will make him take it back, even if he says all sales final. Easy to start a "return", they will walk you right through it.

On most engines that is to keep leaking water out of the crankcase.

I had an apprentice in the 90's that during my week vacation went to every truck in the fleet and put zerk fittings in those holes and greased the water pumps. He was proud as punch.....until I made him take them all out!
