post hole digger wont come out of ground

I have an old harry ferguson T20, I bought a brand new post hole digger, and although it digs beautifully (a little to good at the moment), it won't come back out of the ground. It just keeps digging til it sinks itself. This happens approximately 90% of the time, the other 10% it works great. I also have a bush hog, it has no problems at all raising or lowering. Any body have any suggestions on the post hole digger. I am using heavy grade oil, so that's not the problem

A PHD cab screw its self into the ground, especially if tree roots are in the area, until It has to be turned backwards to get it out or the ground. Also a TO 20- does not have a lot of lifting capability

We had a jd 50 when we dug post holes we
took the pipe wrench with. We also raised
the digger several times when digging to
throw the dirt out just let it dig a
little bit at a time. A couple sessions
with the pipe wrench and you soon figured
out how far you could go with each bite.

You need to use a tractor with the 3point hitch hydraulic system independent of the power take off for best results with a post hole digger.Or you will be disconnecting the PTO shaft and turning it backwards with a big pipe wrench all the time, wich is not fun.

and I do have the 3 point hydraulic system. I am fixing to see if I turn it backwards with wrench if I can get it out of the ground, then try going a little at a time.

I had the same problem with a Kubota tractor. It didn't have enough umph for the post hole digger so I made a wooden board that stair steps the digger down so it clears some of the dirt out of the hole before going down a little more. The only problem is it takes two people to operate.

As far as getting the auger out the first time it happened to me I had to dig around it a little and use a bigger tractor with a front loader to pull it out.

I have had that problem before so what I do it drill a little bit pull it back up then go back to drilling and keep ding it that way so that the bit does not fill up with dirt. So now a question. If you try to pull it back up what happens?? Does the front of your tractor lift up off the ground?? Your 3 point system should have enough power to lift the front wheels and if it does not you have other problem

When I try to pull the digger up, all it does is keeps digging deeper, till it can no longer dig down. and no, my tractor does no raise up in front while this is going on. Could it be the relief valve????

Could be a number of things if you do not have enough power to lift the front end up. Relief valve or a bad set of cylinder rings or a leak some place etc etc.

I have a TO-30 with a 6" PHD, and I agree with just about everything everyone has said. Dig a little, raise, dig a little more, raise, although this hasn't been too much of a problem with mine. Big pipe wrench is standard equipment, I keep one on the tractor. Currently using cheap universal hydraulic fluid, and the boom drifts down in transport constantly, much worse than the dirty old 90, but still lifts pretty well. (Cylinder or ring troubles) I have dug a lot of holes with it. I also have a PHD with a 9" bit on an International 300 with independent PTO and down pressure, and that is a whole different critter.

I don't know if a to 30 has a rate of drop adj for 3pt I just adj my slow enough so it doesn't screw itself into the ground. I also
heard that on a ferguson you can jack up one rear wheel put it in reverse and it will unscrew itself.

All I ever had to do was rock the tractor back and forth a few times, forward/reverse forward/reverse, and the PHD
would lift right out.

I tried some post holes on the weekend and even with the super duper chisel tip auger down pressure was still required .
