Oliver 77 Engine Starts, then Quickly Quits

I have an Oliver 77 gas row crop that has been in the family for over 60 years. Usually every few weeks I start it up, drive it a little, then park it, never a problem.

I tried to start it today, and the old Waukesha engine runs for about 1-2 seconds then quits. The carb was rebuilt 2 years ago, I do have the 8 volt conversion on it.

Any places to start???

Thanks

One always starts at the same place when trouble shooting a gas engine.
#1 make sure you have a good blue/white spark that jumps a 1/4 inch gap or more at the center wire on the cap and also to in this case all 6 plugs.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes.
#3 when was the last time you serviced the air cleaner??
Post back what you find

On that short of a time it is not likely to be the coil that is not enough time for it to get hot. Ignition switch or condenser yes

My 1600 did just that. Quit when it was warm, would start and run for about a second then die. The OP didn't say whether it did it from a cold start or not.

THANK YOU for all of the information and ideas.

Everything else checked out except the spark was weak.

This leads me to wonder about the points, cap, and condenser.

How hard is it to get at the condenser? Does the cap twist off or is it friction held, how crazy is it to line the points back up? Is this a weekend warrior project or more advanced?

Thanks
