Ford 3600 Fuel Bleeding

I purchased a Ford 3600 Diesel and was changing all the filters. I have been having trouble bleeding the fuel filter. When I loosen and even remove the bleeder bolt on the filter housing top nothing comes out. I removed the line going in to the filter and fuel flowed fine. Should fuel not flow out the bleeder by gravity??

I can't bleed the rest of the system until I can get the filter to bleed. I installed a NAPA Gold filter by the way.

Thanks,
Rick

You may have the wrong rubber ring in the top of the filter. The proper ring has to fit up in the groove in the filter housing. I fixed one the other day where the owner had put a smaller rubber ring on top of the filter element and put it back together. The small ring filled the openings in the top of the filter where the fuel needs to flow. Nothing out the bleeder fitting. Its worth a look.

Xs two what Gary said. NAPA/WIX filters have the inlet on the top, and lots of guys make the mistake of putting an O ring in there. Been several service calls made to fix that goof..
