TD9 does not want to start on gas

I have an old TD9 that is giving me fits, started and ran fine one day and now will not start on gas, have done a lot of reading on this forum and now looking for a little help. The carb is clean, getting good fresh gas to the bowl. Spark is good and it will run on diesel if pull started by my other cat, my dad always told me that is a last resort. From what I have read so far the most likely problem is flapper in the intake manifold. If anyone has some pictures of what everything is supposed to look like with the linkeage while the cat is running on gas I would appreciate it. I found an old discussion but the link to photos will not open. If anyone thinks I am headed in the wrong direction please feel free to give advice. I have been operating the old thing since I was about ten but my dad kept it maintained and he passed away last year so I am learning as I go.

Matt1979,It has been awhile but it should have a lever on the left side of the engine that you pull and lock to open the compression dump valves to reduce the compression ratio so it will start on gas. Some also had a switch that fed power to the coil when starting on gasoline.Remove the drain plug on the bottom of the carb and let about a pint of gas out to clean the carb bowl of trash.Leave the diesel throttle in stop position when trying to start it on gasoline. Once running move the diesel throttle open a little and slowly release the valve lock lever.

Thank you very much for the reply, I am familiar with how to start and run the cat, the problem I am having is it won't start, there are more than a few pieces of bubble gum and bailing twine holding the old girl together and was just looking for a few photos of what the linkage, at the manifold, is supposed to look like and what position when set to run on gas.

Matt, On the intake butterflies, look just above and behind the carb. You will see a "V" shaped lever. Next to the lever is a vertical rod that goes up to the starting valve lever. on that vertical rod is a small plate about 1.5 inches wide that fits inside the :V: lever. When on gas setting the plate lifts the V upwards, but if sticky the V will not go up all the way. Spray penetrant in the shaft that the butterfly valve are on and move the V up and down. Then lift the V into up position and try to start. Jim.

Matt, does it still have the ignition
grounding switch in place on the intake
manifold at the front of the engine? That
kills the spark when it's running on diesel
