Lock and Stitch Cracked Engine Block

I have an Oliver/Hart Parr 18-27 with the common water jacket crack behind the carburetor. The crack is about 8" long. I have the block out
of the tractor and sleeves out. The crack is very easy to get to.

I am thinking about having somebody "Lock & Stitch" the block. Is this an expensive process? Has anybody ever had this done? Cost?? I am just
rattling options in my head.

I did a 7" long crack on our 770 D Oliver. It took me 45 min-hour. Then we immediately filled it with coolant and put it to work to make sure it wasn't going to leak. It didn't leak a drop. I believe in testing things almost to the point of failure if I can. If it won't hold up, what good is it? It is very easy to do. After I had all of the pins in, I ground them close, then went over then with a flapper wheel on a grinder, then finished it off with a needle scaler to dent it up like cast would be. It is invisible. The only way I could show you where it is, would be to clean the paint off the block and look for the row of round pegs that are a different color metal.

I have done a few and it it an excellent repair. The tooling is what is terribly expensive.I would probably have to charge about $400.00 to do an 8 in. crack.

Buy the tools and do it yourself , the kit comes with a cd

or 2 on the how to do it . I weld cast iron ,the side of a

block is not the place to learn to we;d cast.
