Oil canister 48 ford 226h

I got a reply on the ford barn about a restrictor ball bearing needed to control oil flow.Does anyone know of this,I am told it is in the canister housing that bolts to block, this is a 6cyl flathead partial flow filter canister,I cannot find any info on a ball bearing restrictor, thanks

I don't know about a ball being used as a restrictor...

If the filter is connected to a main oil galley, it does require some type of restriction, usually a simple
drilled orifice that controls the flow. If you look at all the connections, you will probably find a
restrictor of some type, usually a .030 to .060 drilled orifice.

Some of the old flatheads also used a "bypass" filter. It connected to the bypass circuit of the oil pump.
It filtered any oil that came through the pressure relief valve of the oil pump. This type did not use a
restrictor.

(quoted from post at 17:52:50 05/19/16) Yes,I have the second type, bolts directly to block,no lines,I can't find a restrictor,it's just a inlet and outlet on canister housing
don't know that engine, but as a possibility, I would look inside the filter can for a small hole (~0.060)drilled in the side of center tube, assuming it has a center tube. That is the way they restricted the "N" tractors from 1939 to 1952.
