Cub Starter issue

This is a photo of my old starter and the new starter to the right. The new starter will not fit because the switch location is too far to the right. The tractor is a 1952 Cub. I know the part numbers match but the new starter has an alignment issue. Can the end of the starter that goes into the bell housing be turned at all? Or should I just get to old starter rebuilt?

check if there is an index pin on the nose of the starter, if not you should be able to clock the starter 180 degrees

Depends on how/where the case bolts pass between the field windings. If there is no alignment pin, and there is room to move the bolts, you might get it to move far enough to clear. Just be sure the bolts don't get against the windings or short out the brush wires.

Have you looked in the old starter? May be repairable. Probably better quality than the new one if it's new after market.

CharlieR ,You could try and re clock the nose(remove and check for more bolt holes),or if no different bolt holes in it replace the nose with the old nose.
