Ford 660 Hydraulic Issue

Hello all, new tractor owner of a 1955 Ford 660. She seems to run very well but having an issue with the hydraulics. I have searched the internet, including this site but can't seem to find the same symptoms. The hydraulic arms don't seem to raise very far, unless I lift the small position control lever to the right of the seat. When raised to the vertical position, the hydraulics will raise all the way up but as soon as I let go of it they will leak down. The lever will not stay vertical so it falls as soon as I let go of it to the horizontal position. It seemed today the issue was getting worse and the landscape rake I had attached was barely off the ground without raising that lever. Anyone had a similar issue or have any ideas? Thank you in advance, Taylor

There's really no valves under the cover to adjust like the other poster mentioned. However.. there are linkages under there to adjust, and a few things to service.

1, the draft/position handle is horizontal or flipepd down, not flipped up... if ours flips up.. you have definate issues. :)

You will want to replace the cam follower pin, and if the cam is worn down on the rear rocker, build it up and then grind to contour. many times the pin only rides on half the cam so it wears but leaves a witness mark of unworn area. Some people just put in a longer pin to ride the unworn part.. but the real fix is to build up the cam AND use the longer pin.

while in , might as well re oring and gasket... including orings for the lift piston.

use the service manual alternate adjustment procedure if you don't have the nuday tools.

It's been years since I worked on a 6-800 lift, couldn't remember if it had valves like my three cylinder 4000 or not, but I knew it did have linkage that needed adjusting.

Thank you Soundguy. Yes, you are correct. It is horizontal in the up position and vertical in the down position. It will not stay up. I will take the cover off and try to see what's going on. Can I run it with the cover off or no, just to see what's going on? Not much of a mechanic.
